Masters stage project proposal

For this module I would like to explore the theme of adventures and journey’s. As a starting point I would like to make a sequence about boats with a focus on boats as a collection, showcasing the varieties and their function. Possibly including a non-fiction spin than a sequence with a strong narrative. I would like to develop my skills in colour and tone and how they can be used to play with focal points and connect details in a composition. I would like to experiment with how colours can be illogical and still be readable to the viewer and how tone and colour can be used to enhance an illustration’s atmosphere/feeling. As well as developing colour I would like to play with how I use the foreground, midground and background. By taking inspiration from directors such as: Andrei Tarkovsky, Wes Anderson and Jean-Pierre Jeunet who use artistic shots that effect the relationship between a form/figure and its background and how I can channel this in my own work. I would also like to experiment with the book format and see how die cuts, fold gates and flaps can enhance a spread and the engagement with the book itself.
